SCCIL Leadership Project

The SCCIL leadership project is a Connect SL project that grew from the frustration of witnessing the disconnect between an increasingly linked and globalised world and the lack of understanding and acceptance of our differences as a richness to be harvested.
The SCCIL project is designed to give young international people the opportunity to acquire and develop leadership skills and knowledge as it applies in a cross cultural environment. It is also an occasion to discover some aspects of Perth and Western Australia.
The program is divided into three parts:

Part 1: This part is workshop-based and is an invaluable opportunity to discuss and debate leadership skills and concepts including cultural differences, what we have in common, communication, teamwork, ethical behaviour, critical thinking etc. It will also introduce the concept of leading yourself before leading others.
Part 2: This is the time when the participants will be challenged to apply the concepts discussed in
Part 1 in real life activities. These are unique and exciting opportunities. One challenge is to spend 7 days learning how to sail the STS Leeuwin II. The other is to be immersed in a vastly different cultural environment in the Australian wilderness in the Morapoi Station for a 4 day stay. Although both activities address leadership and teamwork they do so in vastly different environments.
Part 3: This is a time to reflect on the learning and the overall experience of the program. The program will also provide an opportunity for the participants to:
- Meet with local students of the same age group
- Meet with Indonesian students who live in Perth
- Visit Western Australian university campuses
- Discover aspects of Perth
