One of UNPAR’s international students, Danish Raza, participated in the USU 2024 International Summer Course last October. Danish is a Kemitraan Negara Berkembang (KNB) 2023 awardee from Pakistan, currently pursuing a master’s degree in Business Administration at UNPAR beginning this year. Taking place over the span of a week, Danish took a summer course on “Empowerment Practices for Disadvantaged People” organized by the Department of Social Welfare, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU).

The hybrid summer course was held online and in-person in Medan. From 7-8 October, Danish participated in the online course that focused on the role of the United Nations in empowering disadvantaged people and the issue of refugees and human rights. In the field-trips that lasted 10-13 October, Danish visited famous sites in North Sumatra such as Siantar, Danau Toba, and Samosir Island. The course ended on Monday, 14 October with a closing ceremony and dinner with faculty members. This summer course opened opportunities for Danish to network with students and academicians from diverse backgrounds and gain a deeper understanding of Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage, especially in North Sumatra. UNPAR welcomes its international students’ initiatives to expand their knowledge and network through enriching academic and cultural experiences during their stay in Indonesia, such as the USU 2024 International Summer Course.
