On Monday, 28th of April 2025 UNPAR had the honor of welcoming the Ambassador of the European Union to Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam, H.E. Denis Chaibi and Deputy Head of mission EU Delegation to Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam, Stephane François Mechati. On this occasion, UNPAR signs an MoU/ memorandum of understanding that opens opportunities for many things such as; hosting ambassadors talk, getting information like erasmus+ and internships. The MoU signing was represented by H.E. Denis Chaibi and UNPAR Rector, Prof. Ir. Tri Basuki Joewono, Ph.D. while being witnessed by hundreds of students.
“We believe that education is a bridge – one that spans borders, cultures, and generations. Through this partnership with the EU, we are strengthening that bridge and we look forward with great anticipation to your guest lecture, which promises to challenge and inspire us. In today’s world, which is described as a complex and interconnected tapestry of diverse cultures, societies and systems, marked by both progress and challenges, we become more convinced that autonomy is important but collaboration is still a must.” an opening remark given by UNPAR rector, Prof. Ir. Tri Basuki Joewono, Ph.D.
The Memorandum of Understanding signed between UNPAR and the European Union marks a significant step toward fostering global academic collaboration and cross-cultural understanding. With Ambassador Denis Chaibi and Deputy Head Stephane François Mechati’s presence underscoring the EU’s commitment to educational diplomacy, this partnership promises to unlock transformative opportunities for UNPAR students. As Prof. Tri Basuki Joewono emphasized, the event reaffirmed that while autonomy remains vital, collective progress thrives on unity. As the ceremony concluded amid the hopeful energy of hundreds of students, it was clear that this alliance not only bridges continents but also ignites a shared vision: empowering future generations to navigate and shape an interconnected world with knowledge and innovation.
After the MoU signing, H.E Denis Chaibi also delivered general lectures attended by around 600 participants, both students and the general public. The lecture discussed Strategic Autonomy in an Era of Trade Wars: The EU’s Role in a Shifting Global Order. In this session, Ambassador H.E Denis Chaibi was accompanied by Sylvia Yazid, Ph.D. as moderator.
The signing of the MoU and general lecture went smoothly and is also expected to have a significant impact on UNPAR and its students in the future.
